Willmar Municipal Airport- John L. Rice Field KBDH
Willmar Municipal Airport opened in 2006 at it's current location 6600 Hwy. 40 SW, it is two miles west of the old closed airfield. Airport facilities include: 5,500' 100' paved runway, 3,000 x 250' turf runway, precision instrument approach, non-precision instrument approach, and aircraft storage areas. Please remember to check current NOTAM's before arriving at or departing from the Willmar Municipal Airport. All aircraft are required to monitor CTAF Frequency 122.8 when in the vicinity of the airfield. MNDOT Aeronautics has supplied a flier for important pilot information.
Aircraft Services are provided by the FBO (Fixed Base Operator) Willmar Air Service (Maximum Cruise Aviation). They provide aircraft fuel, Jet A and 100LL is available. They perform aircraft maintenance, ramp area/tie downs, and rental car assistance, please contact them at (320)235-4844 or (320)444-0255.
Onsite maintenance and operations are handled by Eric's Aviation Inc. Eric Rudningen is the Airport Operations Supervisor and does daily runway inspections, runway light repairs, issues NOTAMS, sets traffic patterns, terminal cleaning etc. If you have an operations or maintenance question or concern, Eric can be reached at (320)894-1872.
The Terminal building has many amenities including: 30 person meeting room, passenger waiting lounge, public restrooms, phone/internet connection, concession/vending area, and free parking. For pilots there is a flight planning area, pilot lounge, sleeping areas, and pilot shower/restroom. The airport is conveniently located just two miles west of the industrial park.
The administrative tasks for the Airport are handled by Megan DeSchepper, Planner/Airport Manager. She handles the t-hangar leases, private hangar land leases, budget/bills, is the point of contact for the FAA and MNDOT Aeronautics, and is the Airport Commission staff liaison.
