Rice Memorial Hospital is a Level 3 Trauma hospital and is the largest municipal hospital in the State of Minnesota, maintaining 100 inpatient beds along with many outpatient services. Rice Hospital also provides outreach services and is a regional referral center for hospitals and clinics in a 14-county service area. Rice employees more than 900 staff and has been awarded the Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal of Approval.” The Rice Hospital Board is a semiautonomous branch of the City charged by the Willmar City Charter with full control, operation and management of the hospital and subject to veto powers of the City Council. The Board consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor and none of whom may hold any other office or position in the City government.
